    Large egg pod?

I took this picture on our patio. It looks like a very large insect egg pod but I don't have any idea what kind of bug would produce it. My wife sprayed it with insect killer and turned into something like scrambled eggs. Any ideas on what it might be?

I imagine bugs are similar in the US, I would guess its a spider pod if it looked like it was spun, if it looked like a foam it may well be a preying mantas, But I could be wrong. Regards Stephen

Its got to be a spider egg sack.
When it bursts open, there will be about a hundred of the little critters coming out.

The picture looks very much like the black widow pod. If it was it could have produced a lot of poisonous babies. I understand they are fourteen times more lethal than a rattle snake. Thank you Gentleman for your prompt replies.

Its a spider egg sack of some kind. Mantis nest are about half the size of a golf ball and are normally found in bushes. The boxwoods in front of my house have several mantis nests every year.

Spider egg sack. Most likely Black Widow. I’d be a little cautious. Were there’s an egg sack there’s an adult.

No sense of scale in the photo but if bigger than a Black Widow think Golden Orb spider - common garden spider and I love to have them around. I have had Black Widows in the garage (wood shop) for years and have never been bitten nor has my family and the boys and I were generally out there routinely. We knew where they were and not to bother them and move slowly when picking up a board from the pile so they have time to move. They are not aggressive.

That egg sack was about 2/3 the size of a golf ball. My wife sprayed it with bug killer which caused it to shrink. I applied a propane torch which turned it black. We have enough spiders. There was a TV special about spiders a few years ago on TV and they said that you are usually within two feet of a spider. Kinda scary, if true.

I have an irrational fear of spiders don't like snakes but am deathly afraid of spiders. One of these could bite you and you might not know until you were sick. I had a brother that was bit on multiple occasions. And like dcp spent a lot of time in hospital.

I went to the laundry room this afternoon and saw where a black widow was attempting to eat some kind of little caterpillar thing. I found some flea spray and sprayed the place where it ran to hide, plus a goodly way above and below... I hate spiders. Not afraid, but don't like them, except for the big yellow and black garden spiders. And there aren't any of them this year in the back on the butterfly bushes. I wonder if the two citronella plants are keeping them away?

What most people don’t realize is that all insecticides don’t work on spiders! You need an arachnicide. Fleas are insects. Spiders are arachnids. Whole different animal. And unless ya can get enough flea spray on the spiders to drown them in it, it won’t do much. Unless you’re read the label and it says it will also work on spiders or archnids

Don't know nothing about sprays. But will guarantee you a size 13 will solve the problem.
