    S&B primers

Anyone else getting this result with S&B primers with book loads?

I believe you have a gun problem. I have fired over 30K S&B primers in 5 different guns with zero problems.

Looks like your firing pin is smacking the heck out of them. I would start there.

Are they small pistol magnum primers ? Their website shows them, although I have never seen them for sale locally, only regular SP.

What kind of primers? Small pistol, rifle, Magnum? If your shooting real hot loads I’d be using rifle primers or Magnum small pistol.

Have you fired ammo that isn't S&B primed out of the gun without issues? If not then I'd suggest trying some, but most likely you have a firing pin issue. If so, then I'd say you got hold of some primers that have too thin cups.

I bought 25,000 S&B small pistol primers 2 years ago from Cabela's on sale and have shot up nearly 10,000 without any problems.

The only problem I had with S&B primers was feeding in my progressive, occasionally one would get flipped

Works fine with other brands. This was the first test of increasing powder charges with the same boolit.

My experience shows S&B to be harder than some. I like them and as others mentioned, I have MANY.

I will point out that some .327 loads call for small rifle primers...

With that being said, it looks like your firing pin may be long, or your load requires small rifle primers.

I have no problems with S&B primers. Does your Ruger pierce primers using factory ammo?

I have pierced S&B primers with my Model 30 S&W. It was very infrequent. I looked at the firing pin nose and it had the slightest little "beak" on it. I gently stoned it and rounded it out and now no more pierced primers.

In my experience I have found S&B to be pretty soft actually. CCI and Wolf were the hardest from what I experienced. Winchester were just right for autos and revolvers.

I've used S&B primers SPP and LPP - no issues.

I bet it's like EMC45 says. Bet it's a somewhat damaged firing pin that only shows it on SB primers.

It's apples and oranges, but I have enjoyed complete satisfaction with S&B large rifle magnum primers - they are my favored primer in rifle loads.

I've gone thru 20,000 of the older style s&b primers (green/yellow/red box) and 2000+ of the s&b primers in the new boxes in a couple of ar's, a bolt gun 3 different 9mm's and several 357 revolvers along with any 38spl p+ loads that I make. Never had any issues with them.
