    Help identifying antique mould

I'll update with pics when I get a chance. I've got a 4 cavity Saeco 457 4cav mould, complete with Saeco handles in a Saeco box.

The only number designation on the mould is 457. It cast a 225gr RN BB bullet with a slight shoulder.

"Redding" can not be found anywhere on the box or the contents of the box. The manufacturer location is "Carpinteria, California". So, this tells me something about it's age. I at least know it predates the companies sale to Redding.

On the box, under "CAL.", it says (in factory print) "29445". In sharpie marker, someone wrote "452-225-RNBB". "Bullet No." and "No. CAVS." are both left blank.

On the other end of the box, someone wrote "4 457" and another person wrote "45BB". Both of which was written a bit sloppy in ink pen.

I am basically trying to confirm that the mold is correct for the box. The only factory numbering on the box is 29445 and the only factory numbering on the mold is 457. Thanks folks.

    Looks to be a copy of a H&G 34.

The mold is a 457. However, it is the box that I'm trying to identify. I'd like to know if the box is correct for the mold.

Mystery solved. I spoke with a Saeco rep that shed some light on the box. The box is for one of the 44cal molds. So, the box and mold are not a correct combination. Oh well, still a neat thing to have.

So, call them again and ask that they send you the correct box
Or and unmarked box and you can label it.

Will you be using the mould??

I've used the mold a few times. I made a mountain of good boolits. I just don't care for the BB design in my Lyman 45 sizer, so I want to part with it. I just wanted to gather a little info so that I can sell it. I just didn't want to misrepresent any details.

I'm planning to get an Arsenal 503 Keith 5cav.

Animal. the box is the correct one for that vintage mold. I don't have any early Saeco catalogs so I cannot advise what the 29445 means.
It is not uncommon to find hand written notes and size information on older mold boxes.
Now, if you just had the instruction sheet that originally came with it....

I do understand about the Lyman sizer
BUT you can make up a special I ram for the H&I die to match the BB
    and it will be perfect

Are these premade? or is it a custom purchase? I've got a couple over BB moulds that I'd use more if I had one. Thanks

The number corresponded to a 44cal mould. The number is permenantly stamped to the box. So that, and lacking the paper work that came with it keeps it from being an original packaged item. If it had all the papers and packing in order, well... that would just be as neat as it gets.

No, you must make one, easy with a lathe, just make an I die of proper diameter, cut
out the BB shape on one end, remove the old I part of the H&I die and insert the new
    I die.
Wonder if Lathesmith will do that?
    Send him a PM
