My Garand does just fine out to 400 yards with cast-- could be farther but I cannot see the target any far out than that. Lee 309-200GC, Lee 309-170 GC, and a couple of others.

Yup! Lee 309-200, PC'd, sized .311, and loaded with a tuft of dacron over a moderate charge of H4895 will consistently ring our 10" gongs @ 200 yds. using issue sights. Once I've exhausted my current supply of this load, though, I'm going to give the Arsenal 30-188PC a shot (no pun intended) which prints close to MOA from my .308 Savage M10 at the same distance.

I had a reweld back in the 80s that handled anything reasonable. New family, school teacher, if I wanted to shoot I had to cast. Wish i had it back

I have a few Garands and all like my Lee Cast 185RN C312 sized .309" and IMR 4895. I get 100% function and accuracy as good, or better, as M2 Ball. I detail strip and clean every 300 or 400 rounds and have 100% reliable function.

I load a Lyman 311284 and a paper patch it with plain copy paper and spit. Loaded over a nice charge of 12 gr of Red Dot and it is fairly accurate up to 300 yds if I do my part. I do however cheat a mite with a globe sight in front and a soft rubber recoil pad. My 77 year old shoulder is rapidly approaching the expiration date. My lungs gave out 10 years ago so mine only work at about 40% of normal with COPD/asthma/emphysema and the like. It is a pain in the tuckkus to drag around an oxygen tank everywhere but I do it just to keep mobile, agile and hostile. I also mess with unique when I want a powder puff loading and with the adjustable gas valve I can get away with it.

I have a happy Garand update regarding my prior post here. I found 500+/- primed GI WCC '63 cases in my shed. The brass was in nice shape, but I wondered if the 56 year old primers would be reliable. I selected 60 cases yesterday, ran them an eighth of an inch into the sizer to round out the case mouth, C&D trimmed the lot and loaded half 150 grain jacketed and the other half with my favorite Lee Cast C312-185 1R sized .309."

This morning was a perfect rifle match day here in PA. It was sunny, windless and 60 degrees. I took my favorite Garand to my nearby gun club, set up my spotting scope and fired away. All WCC '63 primed brass was Sure Fire. My 150 grain jacketed bullets were +2 at 100 yards. I then fired the 185 grain cast and all hits were on top of the jacketed load!

My only other arms with the same point-of-aim, point-of-impact with both jacketed and cast loads at 100 yards with the same sight setting are my .308 Indian Rifle and Carbine.

I think I should increase my church pledge!
