    You'll need some sort of attachment to the bench or another table to be able to stand or lay a rifle when cleaning and/or loading. I agree with some sort of cover so the rough surface will not scratch that nice looking flint lock and other guns.

    Built one almost exactly like that. Best thing i ever did for home shooting
    Hint rubber car floor mats make great elbow protectors and wind/rain will not hurt them. Heavy wind might find them a couple feet from the bench. A couple with ridges will hold rds/brass ect nicely on the table

    Wife had a couple old yoga mats that got repurposed to The shooting bench rolled up on the chair to keep clean and dry. Roll out and start shooting.

    Rubber stall mats from TSC work great, these are made for farm use they are tough and weather proof used in most stock trailers
    I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left.
