Lucky you. My tire guy retired. Have to find a new, free supply.
Hey now thats the way to do it. Its getting harder and harder to get them around here.
Two buckets is a good score! I hope your lead yield is good.
I live on the Left Coast. While I know auto repair and tire people, I am actually kinda reluctant to ask about wheel weights: I figure there'd be so much steel and zinc that I'd rather pay for other sources of known lead than have to sort and get a very small pile of lead for the effort.
I buy my tires from a small local shop. They do light mechanic work also and I use them for anything that they do including oil changes. About every time I go in I get a partial bucket of weights. Sometimes they even get delivered to my house If I'm not by there before the bucket gets full.
I always take them donuts or cinnamon rolls the next day. I even showed a few of the guys some of the bullets that I cast. The owners Wife wanted one of the bigger ones to keep on her desk! I may take a Lyman ingot by the next time!
Around here the lead to non lead percentage is still holding up well.

You might crank the heat up on the smelting pot and make her an ingot out of the zinc weights. Not as heavy, but you don't waste the good lead on a paper weight either.

Its amazing what a pretty woman can get a guy to do!
I am about to melt some zinc that I have been saving to make my Son an anchor for his kayak and I'll probably make the rest into ingots to sell. She might like to have one of them. The zinc would be safer for her to handle.
I had an in with a large chain store tire guy. I used to get a 3gal bucket every 2 weeks for $20. Then the yield started to plummet after Kalif banned lead ww, what, 7y ago? I have to think that the lead yield today is maybe 10-15%? Not worth my time to haul it & sort, even if free.

Getting tougher to find in my area... garage I use don't want to part with them any longer
I work for the highway dept. repairing the roadways and always tell the workers to be on the lookout for wheel weights. We pick them up all the time. I too no longer try to get them from the tire shops but when there check out the parking lot and around their dumpster, it's just something I do while waiting on my vehicle to get serviced.
