WTB: Arisaka 38 firing pin

Customer needs a firing pin, anyone have one ya don't need?

I'd rather purchase from here than the auction sites.

No, sorry -- I've got a Type 99 pin in the parts drawer, but since I've got two Type 99s I'm going to hang onto it. I see where the Type 38 sells for around $80 at GPC, and the 99 is almost as pricey. Although there were umpteen thousands and thousands of Arisakas produced, for many years now it has seemed that the surplus stock of them is gone, and the only way to get a replacement is by the parting out of a rifle or by buying a replica part -- not that there's anything wrong with most of the replicas I've handled. So, my advice, if you find a supply at a reasonable price, buy two of them; because when they're out of inventory they seem to stay that way for a couple of years, and the problem will likely come your way again. The last time that they were hard to find, around 2002, I got a phone call from a fellow in Idaho who was looking for a Type 99 firing pin.
He actually drove over to Oregon to get one I took out of a rifle on the "for sale" rack. Then, when I went to order a replacement I discovered that they were nowhere to be found. So, following my own advice, when they did become available I bought two.

If I'm looking at that correctly it is the spring, not the pin. The pins are "sold out".

Check eBay.

If the old pin has a broken tip, re-tipping a firing pin is usually quite doable.

Well, it is a bit more than that. It involves some machining / drilling, soldering, and fitting. I have done a few as replacement parts were either unavailable or too expensive. A last resort, or act of desperation, if you will.

Could repair it, make one ??? The cost would be out of sight. It's not mine. It is for a customer.

I actually tried to talk him out of repairing the gun.

The bores rough I shot worse and had them shoot fairly accurate. The stocks cracked in two places that needs repaired. He doesn't want that fixed.

His wife's grandfather was the owner. The kid wound up with the 38 and a Winchester 97.

Customers last words , I want it in working order. SMH

Assuming a new tip is what it is needed, re-tipping is an one-hour job, even easier if you have a lathe. I did a few for customers and I only had a drill press to work with. It is certainly more arduous than fitting a replacement part, but not bad. Oh yes, you may need to fit the new pin to fit the pin hole and have correct protrusion, or even re-tip it if you can't fit it.
