    These molds are built to very tight tolerances, check their webpage tips for prepping their new molds. I wouldn't smoke/soot them other than maybe the HP tips only - they suggest graphite - you don't want/need any extra crud anywhere else.

    Hot plates are good, I have warped one brass mold by holding it in lead pot... but that was long time ago when I was even more stupid than I am now.

    I have never needed lube on iron moulds. RCBS, Lyman or Saeco. Could be a mould type problem.
