    Oversize bullet

Does anyone see any harm in trying a .515-.517 30:1 bullet in a barrel that I normally use .512s in? I have a mould that I want to try. I don't want to size the bullets smaller due to grease groove depth.

A little more information would help, cartridge, firearm, etc. But in general, probably okay to do.

If you want to resize and keep the grooves, lube them first and then squeeze it down. The lube is non-compressible so it maintains the grooves.

Original .50-70 Sharps carbine 3 groove relined. It has a perfect bore, but I assumed that it had a Government line which should be .515 groove to groove. Turned out to be .510 so I guess the liner is relatively new. I always lube before sizing so perhaps I'll be ok.

    THANKS

If it chambers fine you should be good to go.

Being soft at 30-1 it's going to be bumping up to fill the chamber or throat anyway. Good chance it will be pretty accurate.

Failing that I would try the lube first suggestions. Never tried it myself but sounds like it could work.

I'm with the vagrant on this one, if it chambers and it's soft, you should be good to go with BP of course. I don't play around with things like this with old guns and smokeless powder.

I shoot my 50/70 with a 0.515 oversize boolit; nothing wrong with that!

Hold Still Varmint; while I plugs Yer!

Start low and work up with them. I usually shoot .002 -.03 over with 20-1. You may be surprised to how they perform. If your rifle as a throat between chamber and leade ypu ay want to check its ize with a chamber cast, a bullet bigger than the trot may need to be seated much deeper than a fitted bullet
