Minies over FFFFg in a 54 - could be the only blackpowder shot he ever fires !!!!

Give the guy some FFF powder and start him with a slack fitting round ball - we need more happy blackpowder shooters in this country - do not need anymore headlines in the paper about blown up guns.
I second that , a 54 round ball is a awesome piece of lead for killing most anything . Adding 4F to it means most likely killin at both ends! Just sayin Ed

Your friend is an idiot. Take the gun away from him before he touches off a grenade.
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!

I have used 3f in .54's (Lyman GP with patched RB and TC Scout with quick twist bbl and Maxi-hunters, and Lee R.E.A.L.'s with no problem. Usually with 90 grs. The Scout kicks but is accurate. I wouldn't go 4f except for priming a flinter.

My experience is that 3f burns cleaner, gets more velocity with less powder and is more accurate than 2f across the board in my two .54 cals. My old Lyman BP handbook says so too.
