Get a grip... for a Ruger BH

Got a BH in 41 Mag and I’ve had several after market grips on it. Have gone back to the classic Pachmyer and while it’s ok, it’s not what I’m looking for. I’d like a wood grip that manages recoil and has some good looks.

I got a set of osage orange wood grips from https://www.lsgrips.com/. They look nice on a blued gun, slightly fatter than stock,fit the gun perfect, and handle the recoil from my 300 grain loads out of a 4 5/8 blackhawk 45 without the trigger guard hitting my knuckle.

I've put Altamont grips on most of my Blackhawks. They're not only good looking, but they're slightly larger and give me a better fit to my hand.

I prefer the Ruger Blackhawk Classic Panel Super Rosewood Checkered Fleur-de-Lis. At $38.00 a pair, you can't go wrong, and I've yet to have one not fit.

For my BH's I use either Herrett Shooting Stars or Gunfighter grips from Bearpaw on E-bay.

I've used Herrett Shooting Stars for more than 30 years. I like the checkered walnut over the smooth.

I will agree that wood always looks better and if you find one to fit your hand can make the gun a pleasure to shoot. I absolutely hated the grips that came on my bh but haven't had time to make a set so bought a set of houge grips and while not my favorite looking grips they sure do tame the recoil. Have no problem going through 10 or 15 boxes at a visit to the range. Before a box or so and i was through.

My favorites are the Herrett customs and Badger target finger groove grips. I can really crank up the power levels and not get abused as they fit my hand well and there is a lip that rounds over to keep the trigger guard from rapping my knuckles.

These were made by Sack Petersen from elk antler that I provided. The Blackhawks grip is wider to tame the .41 mag recoil. I like them and the bark serves for checkering sort of.

Is Herrett still in business? Their web site is ancient. But I would like to buy a pair of their grips for my Blackhawk.

My late brother killed that particular elk. With 210 hp @1450 fps I would rate the wider set as better than standard wood factory but not as good as Pachys or Hogues. The plastic factory grips are horrible; best thrown away. I just can't stand the looks of the rubber type.

I get the smaller size but they make a bigger/thicker version
And smooth, which i Like or textured
The Evil Roy versions are nice as well.
