Just curious...
I have a Henry single shot in 30-30.
A Henry single shot in 30-30 rechambered to the 30-30 Ackley Improved.
And a Henry 357 magnum rechambered to the 357 Maximum.
I really LIKE all 3 of them!
I also cut all 3 barrels back just enough to remove the front sight dovetail, and recrowned with a tapered target crown.
All 3 guns also have a 2 1/2 pound trigger pull.
Trigger bases and barrels have been modified to 5 screws and the bases have been bedded to the barrels.
Now, I just need the time to shoot them and develope a load for them.

i've had two - .223 and .357mag - and loved them both for everything but their horrible trigger pulls. read the extensive henry s/s thread in this board and learn ...

I have a Henry single shot in .357 .
I did put a 31# spring in because the hammer
was so hard to pull back (when I showed it to
my friend who is in his 80's, he couldn't pull
it back) so it solved that problem, plus it
improved the trigger pull effort.
I also have installed the Skinner sight combo
they have developed for this rifle.
The end result is a sweet shooting rifle
that does well with the Lyman 358429
and I continue to try other options.
I need to cast up more of the 358429 since
I have exhausted my supply, so I can present
a more definitive report. It looks like this can be
quite the deer load for our close range north
central Ohio hunting conditions.
I'm very interested in the Skinner sight combo. Does it include both a front and rear sight? Do you have a part number(s) you can share? Any modifications required? Thanks!
rfd, You HAD two? Did you send them down the road?
I'm plenty happy with mine. They aren't as good as H&R was, although with a little trigger work, they are fine rifles. Mine seems to be every bit as accurate as a TC encore. I probably won't buy a second, but I would certainly be interested in some barrels if they ever become available.
I have a .223, .243, and a 30/30. I have only shot the .223 and the .243 with scopes. The .223 easily shoots 3/4" with factory ammo, and the .243 shoots an honest inch or a little less at 100 yds. If the .243 is shot enough, say 8-10 shots in a row, the zero starts to change, it actually drops. This due to the barrel heating up, and drops about an inch to inch an 1-1/2, then stops. I got it for a truck gun and shooting it 1-5 rounds does not present any problems. I have only shot the 30/30 with open sights, and it does well, for the big front sight they have. All of mine has great wood, especially the .243. l will probably get one more, in the .357 and have it reamed to maximum, and have a very versatile gun. I have a Williams peep sight that I put on the .223 briefly, as a replacement rear sight, with the front bead replaced with one about 3x smaller than the original, and it shot really well, about 2" groups at 100 yds! I am really going to like mine, the more I shoot them, the more I like them.
