After 2 decades the wait is over!

I’ve been wanting a DPMS or R25 AR10 chambered in 243 for coyote hunting since around 98’ or so but just couldn’t justify it for some reason. Probably because if I owned an AR I’d want one in 5.56 because of cheap ammo availability. I have never been a big AR fan but have had a bushmaster targeter varminter when it first came out around 2000’. Even though it would shoot 5 shots on one little hole the size of a dime at 100 yards it kept Failing to feed so I soon traded it off of for an LTR bolt gun. I bought a POF P415 a few years back that changed my mind. It will shoot .3” groups at 200 yards with j words if I do my part...as so will my LTR.

Well after decades of procrastination I bought an AR stoner 243 upper from midway for $449 shipped and a completely assembled A5 Areo lower minus a buttstock for $200 last Black Friday. So for basically $650 plus adding some extras to it I finally have one! Hopefully it will live up to what I’ve been wanting, a coyote lazer to shoot 55 grain NBTs j words. Don’t think I’ll try cast in any time soon. Just finished it today mounting a warne 20 MOA base I picked up on sale for $46 and borrowed an optic off one of my other rifles for brake in. We’ll see how it shoots, fingers crossed. I will say it’s pretty heavy with the 22” fluted barrel. I added a CMC 2.5 lb single stage trigger as well.

Very nice. I have been thinking along those lines for several years. Like you, I have never really been a fan of the AR platform. However, if yours works out, that might change. I will be watching for a report on how it does on the range. james

A few years ago I built a AR10 (armalite uppers and lower) Krieger barrels. Mine has 2 uppers. This is the big plus to the AR platforms to me easily interchangeable uppers and calibers. Mine is 243 1-7 twist ( runs the 115 vlds great) and 22-250 1-7 twist for 80 grn vlds. Both barrels are kriegers 26" long with a extended handguard gas tube and adjustable gas block.

You should be very happy with yours

243 I think would be a great round for NC deer and yotes I went with the 6.5 grendel one for the bullet weight and the speed the other is bulk ammo to play with I can not help it I am cheap.
Reloading to save money I am sure the saving is going to start soon

I’ll be running 55 grain noslers and hoping to get some good accuracy around the 4,000 FPS mark. If not I’ll run 70 grainers. My plan was to get the flattest, fastest round out of it for yote whackin. I don’t plan on rapid firing it and melting the barrel but just for fast follow up shots when more than one comes to the call.

I second the notion for 70 grainers, I have been shooting/loading for a .243 for 35+ years, and the Sierra bthp 70gr is my go to varmint round! It puts them down hard, and shoots pretty flat out to 400yds, we rarely have a shot farther than that where I live here in KY, with an occasional 500+, but they are rare. I am running a max load of IMR 3031, and my pencil barrel Savage 110 will put 3 rounds into.250 all day long as long as the barrel don't get hot!

I like it. In another year or so I wonder how many uppers you might have?

    This is good.

Lol, definitely a lighter on one in my future. Probably a 22-250.
