    ShilohSharps Barrel

I have the opportunity to buy a nice Shiloh Sharps .40/65 Rifle but the barrel definitely needs to be replaced. About how much does Shiloh charge to put on a replacement barrel ?. I have heard they use "Green Mountain" barrels, is that true ?. I have found that Shiloh's take a special bullet with reduced bands and that best results are using Shiloh dies. I am thinking of trying to get standard chambering.

Shiloh makes their own barrels. Call and ask, Kurt is reasonable.

Shiloh makes their own barrels the reason for the shiloh size dies is because in a .40-65 they use a .410" bullet rather than the original .406" that winchester used originally. If I had to guess about the cost its probably in the 700-800 range but you should call to be sure. They are great folks.

Shiloh makes their own barrels for most calibers. They use Douglas barrels for the 405 Winchester and Krag chamberings. A new barrel will cost about $500-600 if you use the same configuration. If you change the size so you need a new forend the cost will be higher. Call them and ask. They are easy to work with, 406-932-4454

Or have the original barrel re-bored to 45-70

The chamber is so corroded that it cannot be cleaned up enough to convert.

Call Shiloh first and see what they quote to rebarrel into the caliber you want. Im thinking they have a set fee for this. The plus here is they know the rifle inside and out so there shouldn't be any surprises. You might also check with Lee Shaver for this work. Local if you trust them
