Gunsmithing Tips and Projects, 2nd Edition

From Wolfe Publishing. I've got the first edition; is it worth it to buy the second edition?

Sorry, been away a while. It's basically a collection of the gunsmithing articles from Rifle magazine. There may have been articles that appeared in Handloader, but I only read a few issues of that magazine. Articles on equipment for the shop, stock design and making, fitting barrels, checkering (Carmichel), building long rifles (Bivins), bluing, soldering, action and trigger work. My copy is loaned out or I'd list the table of contents.

I would buy it - IF- Any info on barrel chambering in a steady rest? My headstock is only 3/4" and too small to pass a barrel through.
I know it can be done and a lot of barrels are, but I would like to get some tips. So far I have only been so-so with my work way out on the right side of the bed.

I emailed Wolfe Publishing about the new/additional articles in the 2nd edition but they haven't replied. Seems like a lot of outfits don't really want to reply to emails despite having the option for contact. I prefer email because of hearing issues.

Chill, I don't remember if there was an article that covered chambering barrels using a steady rest. I will see about getting my 1st edition back and check what it covers. The NRA Gunsmithing Guide has an article on chambering by Kieth Stegall which may have some information about using a steady rest (I'll get it back when I get the Wolfe book back as well). Maybe Brownell's Gunsmith Kinks series as well. Brownells would probably tell you whether any of their books cover that subject.

Send me a reminder pm in a week or so if I haven't posted with new information. Memory is sometimes worse than the ears.

I actually like a book better than trying to read on internet.

Thanks for your interest! Looks like Vol. #1 does not have what I am looking for but does have some info on barrel fitting and chambering that may be of some general use.
Maybe Vol. 2 will have something.

Those other recommendations are a good idea too.
    I will keep looking.

At $39 I might get the first Volume just to expand my resources.

    Thanks again.

I will get my copies of both of these back when I get home and check the barrelling articles to see if either have advice on chambering with a steady rest. I just did a search and maybe one or more of these results might help:

    https://duckduckgo.com/?q=chambering...st&t=lm&ia=web

I think it's Brownells Gunsmith Kinks that are in sequential volumes, maybe up to five now. The 2nd edition of Gunsmithing Tips and Projects is just the 1st edition updated with additional information/articles.

What you want is "The Gun Digest Book of Riflesmithing" by Jack Mitchell.

Amazon Prime is listing the second edition for $31.08. I may add that to my Wish List.
