H&g 73

I took a chance on a rusty H&G 73 mold and won the auction.

It arrived today and I broke it down, degreased it and dropped it into Evap-O-Rust. It came out looking fantastic. There was no rust inside the cavities to start with and now the whole mold looks good. There's no light between the blocks so it's tight.

My question is has anyone actually used this in 9mm? If so what kind of seating depth are ya using?

Congrats on your lucky find -- both that it is a Hensely & Gibbs #73; and, that it cleaned up great for you. I have two of these -- both police department as original owners -- and they (as well as me) use them in.38 S&W Special .357, with their dropping ~145 grain SWC -- from 10-Cavity Moulds. Dependent upon your bore diameter sought, this might work -- but, assuming your 9mm is a semi-auto, might not the bullets dropped be a tad on the large size? (I don't know; why I asked)
In the .38 loading, it is a very accurate bullet.

Congrats on bring an old H&G back into service.

I have loaded semi wadcutters for the 9mm, but in the 130 grain range. Powder coated I had no feeding problems and good accuracy. I always measure my bullet jump for a bullet to a particular barrel and adjust my seating die accordingly, hoping to find the best accuracy, of course in a pistol the OAL has to be able to fit in the magazine. I would suggest starting there.

I have that particular mold and my brother tested that bullet in a Springfield XD and liked the accuracy. I don't know all the particulars about his loads but he only tried it
in a few rounds, less than 20 if I recall. They were sized .358. Sorry about the lack of information but that was 2 or 3 years ago and he is 8 hours away.

I do shoot tons of them in a .357 revolver and are deadly accurate.

I cast up a few and it seems they are really long for 9mm, unless I seat with the crimp groove outside the case.

I'm going to load up a few just for chits and giggles and see how they run.
