    .224 price and options

Here is my complete package offer for making excellent 22 caliber bullets from both commercial jackets and 22lr brass.

I recommend using a Lee Classic Cast press with my BTSniper premium dies. I offer an improved version of the Lee Classic Cast press that I have modified specifically to handle the pressures of swaging. This press has modified linkages that produce over twice the leverage of the stock press and comes with a new threaded ram and auto eject set up.

Should the customer already have the Lee Classic Cast press all that is needed is my auto eject set up and the press will be good to go for use with my dies.

BTSniper Premium 22 cal Swage Die Kit

    Some common questions.....

    Q. What press will my dies work in?

    A. My top recommended press for use of my 22 cal dies is a Lee Classic Cast press followed by any of the RCE llc. offered presses and then any decent reloading press with a 1" ram.

    Q. What ogive (nose profile) should I choose?

    A. If you plan to shoot from a semi auto platform the 6.25s ogive is the best choice. If you only wish to shoot from a bolt action then the 8.75s has shot well for me. The 6.25S ogive matches the 52 Sierra match king nose profile perfectly and is my "standard" offering I keep the most of in stock and my top recommendation for best all around shooting.

    Q. What FPS are bullets made from 22lr brass able to achieve before they risk coming apart?

    A. Myself as well as many customers have done a lot of extensive testing in the matter. I just recently was able to achieve over 3600 fps with a 12 twist barrel and my 8.75s ogive 52 grain bullets and had all bullets make the target. It wasn't till the pressure reached unsafe levels and the fps reached nearly 3700 with this gun and barrel until the first bullet did not make it to the target. I stopped my testing and settled on 3550fps from this barrel and haven't had a bullet come apart on me since. Typically I have found good accuracy at 3100fps, 3300fps and 3500fps if your barrel is capable. It is my opinion that if the person behind the press uses good and consistent habits while forming these bullets it has more to do with the bullet staying together then any other factor involved. Of course a quality barrel and slower twist will certainly help too.

    Q. What is the max hardness of the lead cores?

    A. Since I supply a mold the customer is free to cast their own cores from scrap lead. I advise the customer that if they can find wheel weight lead they can certainly find some pure lead too. I advise one to use as soft as lead as possible, keep the BNH at 10 or below and everything should be good. At most a 50-50 mix of pure lead to wheel weight if you must but always strive to keep your alloy as consistent and as soft as possible.

    Q. Should I derim before or after anneal?

    A. Everything I have read suggests annealing after you derim, although I have had customers report back acceptable results of deriming after anneal. Until I try otherwise I still recommend annealing after deriming 22lr brass.

    Q. What is the best method for annealing 22lr brass?

    A. Any heat source that will get the brass above a temp of 800f. I have had good success with a self cleaning oven laying brass out on a pizza sheet. I recommend cleaning derimed brass jackets in a stainless steel tumbler first. Also had good luck with a clean and covered elc. lead pot. And of course a Kiln used for pottery and ceramics.

    Q. What is the best method for cleaning the scale off the brass after annealing?

    A. Stainless steel media in a rotary tumbler of some sort is by far the best and only method I recommend for cleaning the scale off annealed brass.
