    Unknown alloy

I came across around 70 ingots of “lead” that I got from a guy who made fishing weights. He says they contain mostly lead, solder, and tin. I did pencil hardness test and Lee hardness die test and they come out around bhn 10-12. My question is, would it be acceptable to mix 50/50 with Linotype and treat it as Lyman #2? Of course I will test hardness once it’s mixed. The alloy appears very clean.

#2 comes out as 5% tin 5% antimony 90% lead

Hi. Rather than guess, you should know exactly what you have and then mix an alloy. I suggest you send a PM to BNE, one of the forum members. He will do an XRF analysis of your alloy for the cost of 1# of alloy shipped to him. Hope this helps. Ed
