Wildcat question: 270 R.E.N. Short

Ok, so I'm new to wildcatting, and I'm interested in making one of my own, but I have a few questions.
So I'm trying to design basically a scaled up centrefire 22lr. It has to be subsonic, 800-900fps 1000 tops, and has to be 270/6.8 (.277) because I'm using a 22 hornet case as a starter and this will make it straight walled. I want to use a 120-150gr cast boolit. I'm basically looking for a shorter 270 R.E.N. and out of a 10" bbl I'm wondering what kind of charge to start with and what kind of alloys to try. Also perhaps some mold suggestions. I figured someone here might know.

Why not just neck down a 300 B/O ? But I would go w/7mm as the bullet choices are so much greater.

I have a hornet rifle, so i've already got some brass, and I only want a small case for subs

Given the small case, are you wanting to use pistol powders like red dot, trail boss, bullseye? I use the the Lee 277 135 grain in my 270 with good results. You could get away with no gas check at those speeds. I've used the Lyman 280413 Spitzer boolit at lower speeds, it doesnt much care for higher speeds in my rifle. Getting ready to test the 280468 Loverin boolit. If you want some test samples, send me a PM. Whi are you having the chambering and barrel done by?

QuickLoad is a great tool for wondering, what if?...
What you will need is the case length, case capacity in grains of water. If you have an electronic scale, put your primed case on the scale, zero it, then fill the case to the top with water and weigh it.
For your bullets, you will need the bullet length, weight, and seated length.
With all of that, it's fairly easy to put it all into QuickLoad and try several different powders.

Why not just get a 1in 8" twist .224 barrel and cut a hornet chamber with a deep throat and shoot 70 to 80 grain bullets subsonic?

I have been kicking this idea around myself. I plan on doing this on an 10" barrel for a contender. I have been shooting 77 grain cast boolits out of a suppressed 10.5" pistol AR. Have to hand cycle them and I don't have a cronagraph but 3.5 grain of Lil gun keeps them subsonic. So I would think the 22 hornet would be able to supply that case capacity even with a deeply seated bullet.

That's not a bad idea, I like that, but I think I want the heavier boolit from the 270

A 32 Long out of a rifle barrel would be much cheaper and easier, especially if you own a Contender frame. That would be one check written to Bullberry, MGM, or EABCO.

I had a .270 REN in a 10" T/C and it was one of the most inherently accurate cartridges I've shot. I used it for Sillywett Field Pistol and eventually sold it. I would suggest you just build a standard REN and deep seat the boolits. The only problem I had with the REN is that the parent case (Hornet) is very fragile and if it see's just a little too much pressure it will split on you.
