This machine takes forever to polish brass, But it sure does powder coat
With black airsoft BB's and very little powder, it's perfect. Just walk away from it for 5 minutes, come back and you are ready to bake
No overspray, no dust. Use fine forceps to remove from hopper
Switch on cord makes it nice. Don't have to dig thru powder...Boolits just pop up.
Did a video, but third party URL's are bunk. The video shows the powder rising like little geysers in the hopper
    I wasted money on electro-static
Oven control thru a PID using an RTD is within +- 1 degree
    Life is so good

The Powder Coat Store....Follow the directions 10 minutes @ 420
So I set timer for 15 min. which allows the oven to stabilize temp with cold bullet load
Very easy to watch with the PID controller
Heavy bullets take longer, so I adjust accordingly
Use a convection oven rewired to isolate fan from controller
One can really get a handle on what's going on with a precise controller
Set controller to Auto-tune and it does the rest
Powder coat sticks and almost becomes part of bullet
Complete coverage from top to bottom
Since I had the SCR's and PID's on hand, it was a no brainer

Most PC instructions are "X minutes after substrate reaches Y degrees" ??

My 1200 works great. I have it on a 5 minute timer so i can do something else while it does the coating. Eastwood Machine Gray, Ford Light Blue, Ford Dark Blue and Rat Rod Red all work great with this method. V Twin Orange is a bust and has to be sprayed. (But I love the color).

I have the two-bowl Lyman set-up. I used the smaller bowl (600) for PC'ing and it worked excellent with HF red and black ASBBs. Don't know why more people don't just direct-tumble - Everything I've read shows guys putting Tupperware containers in the tumbler. With the Lyman two-bowl you can have one dedicated to brass, the other bowl for PC'ing. If you don't have that, just order a replacement bowl for whatever tumbler you do have.

I expect that the purpose of the Tupperware is the ability to run multiple colors at the same time.

    The red is good
    The yellow needs more time
Tried the black Eastwood hi gloss Not a really nice job
Ordered some white off fleabay . 3 #'s for 24 bucks
Will see. I like the rooster tails that kick up from the BB's. If by chance there is a small spot on nose that's lite
Stick it under the powder shower with forceps.

I found the problem with this method is that the power gets darker and darker as you continue to use it.

and I believe that is lead dust accumulating in your PC...so take necessary steps to keep you safe

I got that same darkening by hand tumbling in tupperware. Could it be the black plastic ASBBs?

Every customer that has asked ME about darkening pc have all been using a tumbler some not using bbs at all
So from that i would conclude its lead dust but soneone with the ability to run an actual chemical/ metals analysis could solve this mystery

If one washes the BB's, There is some damage. I have been using Teflon Balls these seem to generate more static charge and don't wear off color like the plastic ones. They are white in color, so one can't notice any difference

Using a vibrating tumbler also dulls the gloss. Guess that's an easy way to get flat colors that usually don't coat that well.

One can do different shading colors by mixing one that sticks good with one that's marginal
I make tri colors by using the above formula ..Then I set the boolits upright and put another color in a paint strainer. Tap lightly like your wife does to cover cup cakes with powdered sugar. Then bake ..Flat boolit tips can be color coded this way also. Wasted powder goes in my everything zip lock. So many ways and so little time..
Don't know if it's the color or the boolit But my Pardini sure is dazzled by em

    Hey Dave
How many bullets can you tumble at a time?
And where do you get the teflon balls?
Last edited by Onebad06vtx; 05-07-2019 at 09:22 PM. Reason: another question

I throw a handful in. About 75. I then dump them in a Stihl safety plastic screen mask attachment [not very scientific] I pick them out of that. Mcmaster Carr is where I got Teflon[PTFE] Balls. Expensive.. On the hunt for reasonable balls at moment
Looking for PTFE balls instead of the Teflon trademark will be cheaper...….Hopefully

*****This works great for me. There are no expressed or implied warranties on this. This whole coating operation is an experiment on what works best for each person. Take each persons how to as a starting point. If one wants instant gratification on the first round GOOD LUCK

I tried using straight tumblers back in 2012 for PC (I owned 3 tumbler) and found even my small Lyman to be too aggressive and that is the reason I constructed my own tumbler, which has a lid.

I agree with Smoke the darkening you see are fine particles of lead dust now mixed in with the powder, rubbed off by the overly aggressive tumbling action. This discoloration is not an issue caused by the black BB's as I saw this even before I used BB's. Once the powder is coated and cured the lead dust i would not think it would pose a problem, but handling the lead contaminated powder is a safety issue. What concerns me more is the vibrating lead dust becoming airborne. It now can contaminate a much larger area attach to every object, skin, hair, clothing, etc. and be tracked to otherwise clean areas. It also makes it more likely to be inhaled or ingested and that is the primary way lead gets into your system and it doesn't take a lot.

I use a cheap Frankfort arsenol vibrator I had on the shelf. First tried it with air soft bbs then switched to #4 lead buckshot then found it worked just as well just dumping the bullets in. It will coat 3-400 bullets at a time. I just toss them in. Add some pc and let them beat against each other for about 15-20 minutes while the last batch is cooking. A cheap rcbs media separator given a couple cranks gets the excess off. If your conserned about lead dust put a cover on your tumbler. Aint rocket science. I guess if I was that conserned id quit shooting lead all together. Me? Im going to die anyway. Aint quitting shooting Aint quiting casting and I Aint eating like a bunny rabbit.
