Just come back from the range and the first thing I realized is I need a muzzle brake, at least with these 300 grain boolits thirteen shots was all my shoulder could handle. Started at 50 gr load ended at 52 gr.
50 grain average speed 2189.75 fps
    51 grain average speed
    2288.4 fps
    52 grain only three shots
    2376 fps
I don't think I need to go any higher,I will work with these.
    No leading.

Yeah...I don't think I'd go higher. I am running mine at about 2100, 4 grains below max. I don't think I am going to be testing it any further.

I might load some at 48 and 49 grain's to see what kind of speed I get.

ID:	240416 Competitor's Corp pistol has the 22/250 barrel on with the 35 whelen barrel below. The 22/250 is a beast and flame thrower. Just got ammo for the 35 whelen but haven't shot it yet. To be honest, I am a bit apprehensive.

If you look at the lower barrel it indeed has a muzzle brake. I ain't recoil sensitive but I am still apprehensive about the 35 whelen

It can't be as bad as the .454 Casull I had in my Encore pistol, nor the 30-06 in the same pistol...

That Competitors Corp pistol looks like the Magnum Research pistol of the 90's, Lone Eagle or something like that? I sent a Super 14 barrel to JD Jones in 1980 and he rechambered to 444 Marlin for me, it was fun, I'll bet that 35 Whelen Comp Corp pistol will be a blast, literally! Too much fun, no such thing!

I just can't imagine a handgun, that is something without a buttstock chambered for 35 Whelen. WOW-WOW-WOW! I guess my manly days must be behind me!
I have enjoyed my Whelen rifles over the three decades I have had them. Mine Rem 700 is one of the last rifles I would consider parting with. I consider them almost like a basic survival rifle like the 45-70 and the 22long rifle. The 22 is in a different class but the two centerfires are amazingly useful in that they can easily be loaded to useful levels with a huge variety of lead alloy, PB or GC, powders - slow to fast, and primers. ...even BP works in a pinch.

35 Whelen....what twists are on your guns

I have an old Ruger tang safety 3006 with a bad barrel I have finally decided to rebore (JES) to 35 Whelen. I have the RCBS 200 gr. mold,100 new cases and new RCBS dies. Will the 1 in 16 twist be ok for 200 gr.cast and 220 gr. Speer don't anticipate casting or using anything heavier. Will be trying to get as much speed out of the cast boolits and I hear the 1-14 twist is more fo heavier boolits. Any help with your experiences? afish4570
