Will the 1 in 16 twist be ok for 200 gr.cast and 220 gr. Speer don't anticipate casting or using anything heavier. Will be trying to get as much speed out of the cast boolits and I hear the 1-14 twist is more fo heavier boolits. Any help with your experiences? afish4570
Remington legitimized the 35 Whelen and they did it with a 1:16 twist..
They also sell 250gr. factory rounds..
The slower the twist the easier it is to get accuracy with vel. using softer cast bullets..
Given a choice the 1:16 would be the best twist to get..

Did some accuracy testing today with the 300 gr cast from Hunters supply, the 49.8 grains RL15 was the most accurate .492 at 50 yards almost one hole.49.4 grains was the second most accurate just under an inch.

If I get some free time to assemble it. I will going the whelen club. Have a 1in12 24in shilen for a savage. All the pieces are there just short on time at the moment. I will steal some info from here for testing.

They happen to be my favorite rifles. I have a 223, 30-06, and a 270 which I had Redman rebore to the Whelen. All early 80's Featherweights. Fit me perfect and beautiful rifles to boot. Hoping to pick up a Swede and a 7 x 57 one day.
