Years ago I got a new to me phone number.
I hesitate to guess the profession of the last 'lady' to have that number but she frequently got late night calls from drunken men.
Ma Bell would not change the number and this predated caller ID & even touch tone dialing. (IIRC)

Funny but no cop would speak like that

One time I got a guy who paused after launching into his spiel and I pounced.

"What color underwear are you wearing?"
"Are you the one whose sister is a hooker?"
    "Do you still sell drugs?"

    He hung up.

SEFL - land of sunshine, liquid and otherwise...
I've gotten a few that when I'm in the right mood, bored, time to waste, I'll answer, and then string them along for as long as possible. I let them start their spiel, let them go on, ask for clarification, ask again, ask them to give me a few seconds as I have to do something, etc... all designed to keep them on the line for as long as I can make it. Eventually, they tire of it and hang up. Other times, when they talk about me sending money - I tell them - great, send me the money. Wait, you're calling me, then you want to give me money?
And then sometimes I go totally NOT politically correct and make up an accent to match theirs.
One time I got the "gentleman" so upset he started cussing me out -- I thought it was hilarious as he is testing all his new-found English slang bad words on me. Oh, that's a good one. Can you spell it?

I'm hoping to one day get a call on my cell while I'm at the range. My thought is to step out where the noise is much less, whisper or speak softly so they have to turn their volume way up, then step back in the range and fire off a round or two next to the phone.
    Maybe I'm a bit evil?
    - Have a good day and a better tomorrow...

Any danger of damaging the phone if you do that??

Somers, Montana, a quaint little drinking village, with a severe hunting and fishing problem.
I tried a new approach yesterday. Telemarketer called, asked them to call back on my other line, because my battery was about dead. Gave them the sheriff's office number. I'll have to ask dispatch of he called them.
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!

When I get those calls if I have the time, string them along, or just tell them I died last week.

If I don't recognize the caller I answer in Thai. Only people that know me or need to get to me will ask somewhat hesitantly if I'm here. Solicitors will hang up.
