    Have an AK question

So I took some teens shooting today- good kids anyhow a metal eastern bloc mil surp mag started having trouble feeding- I was shocked I’ve had these since the AWB days. So on closer inspection I noticed a very small dent in the area of the curve of the magazine- about a third of the way to the bottom the follower catches on this tiny dent- so any way to fix this or is it just junk now.
I know the magazines are easily replaced these days- but not this particular magazine- holds lots of memories for me. Thanks in advance

Take the magazine apart and reach through with some sort of 'L' shaped steel rod or bar and tap it out.
Have a flat, hard surface under the dent so ya don't overshoot, and make a dent coming outward.

Or, put a large box end wrench inside, on the dent,
One end on the dent, the other on the table, then tap in the middle.

Its hard to explain, but it's the same idea as the non-invasive method they use to tap out hail dents
without grinding, bondo, and repaint. Get behind it, and slowly tap it out.
Do it slow so the metal sort of shrinks back where it belongs.

That was my first thought but the dent is in a tricky place on the outside edge of the top of the curve of the mag- it’ll be a trick to get on it from the inside but I sure will give it a go! This particular magazine means a lot to me sentimentality as silly as that my sound to some.

Semper Fi bro,,,,,, good luck with it.

And if was easy---- anybody could do it.

Also, this is a worthy enough project to justify buying more power tools.

I've got sentimental things too. They guys gave me a rock about the size of a football
from the sea wall while I was on Okinawa in '76 for a desk top paper weight.
    It's still on my desk.

I had some 30 carbine magazines that had dents in them from the outside in Various spots.
I just carved a piece of Oak that fit into the magazine from the bottom end that was shaped to the inside dimensions of the magazine.
I would just pound it in from the bottom till it passed the bump on the inside.
If need be, I would tap the outside of the magazine around the edges of the dent when the block was on the spot where the dent was.
Dents came out easily and unless VERY deep and creased, you could hardly see the repair.
I learned this method when I was in Junior high School 50 years ago and played the Trumpet.
Sometimes I would drop the trumpet and get dents in it.
I would take the dents out by pounding steel balls thru the tubes to pop the dents out.

If you can get a wrench or similar in there right on the dent, hit it gently from the outside with a small ball peen hammer. If you have to, grind the wrench to fit as needed. Idealy you'd want the wrench or metal piece rigidly held. Then you can hold the mag body somewhat loosely with the dent right over the "anvil". If you can get it out some, then you could get inside and sand it to take down the high spot.

    Nope
They were asking about a AK 47
Not the AK -49 where you live.
Alaska must be an updated version of the AK, but what caliber is it ?

So the wood trick didn’t work as the dent was on the edge of the magazine- I Took a long flat blade screw driver and put it inside the the magazine and put pressure up on the dent and tapped a few light taps with a mallet and than put the mag back together - follower moves freely- rounds cycle through but as it’s 9pm here and chickens dogs baby and neighbors are asleep or soon to be live fire will have to wait till tomorrow- I may only trust it as a range magazine from now on but it seems to work- and fixing it just made it more sentimental to me. Thanks for all the tips guys! You are the best!

If you ease the corners on that one follower, you will find that it will feed reliably.
It then will not bind on the bump at all.

Drill a 1/4", hole in the magazine wall opposite of the dent where you can put a small drift rod through the magazine and pound the dent out.
