I am getting a revision on #1
No crimp groove and reduced diameter out of the case
Any suggestions?
I was thinking. 450" so it could still be coated.
Thoughts?

The bullets in post #12 I based off the bullet in post #1. I just removed the crimp groove (not needed) and reduced the base of the nose to .455" for throat clearance. I can modify any of the drawings with a bigger cup hollowpoint like on the bullet in post #1 if you guys want.
Guess I will check back on this one in a month or so to see if there is any activity.
This country has gone to hell but now there is hope for us.

I don't know how long this link will last but it's a pic of a Lee 458-405 grain HP. It has a shallow hollow point, I guess it's a discontinued mold. He's shooting it in a 458 SOCOM, it has stepped nose / front band area, looks like it would be a great SOCOM boolit.
Maybe the 45-70 shooters would like this boolit too.

Oh great, another thread that makes me spend money.
I am easy. That looks like a great bullet.
I would take most any of the proposed designs, but there is no consensus, yet.
I like this Missouri Bullet design, needs a little more meplat.
Or Tom's design
Perfect for me.
But I am open.
If nothing happens soon, I wll just have Tom cut two molds, a 350 grain and a 600 grain, and wait for someone to sort this all out and get a couple MP HP molds in the future.
May take a year or more, but whatever bullet is picked, it must be, first and foremost, a .458 SOCOM bullet.
I do not want a Swiss Army Knife design that "could" be used in this or that.
I am very patient.
So here is my idea for a SOCOM boolit. It has a .475 nose length and a .256 meplat. It's .926'' long and has .451'' in the case neck. The bore rider is .442 and .110'' long.
Weighs about 366 naked and 375 grains lubed. I drew it up on Mountain Molds. I does kinda follow that Lee 458-405 HP and I like that this one starts out at 375 grains because it'll still have some weight left if the hollow point gets blown off. Compared to how fast a SOCOM can push a 300 grain.
I'm probably going to order this as a flat point.
I got my throat length from the Tromix barrel and did some math. I made the nose length .545'' and made the front band .120'' long. If I seat the lower edge of the front band of the ver. 2.2 boolit .050 into the case mouth it will have about a .060'' jump to lands. Its base will be about .055'' past the shoulder in the case body and its OAL will be 2.070''. I wasn't too worried about lube capacity because I'll use coatings and the bore rider was changed to .441 to make sure PC clears the lands.

Thank you for catching that, I'll have to play with it some more. I added the second boolit to post #28.

I recieved that 459-375 mold from Mountain Molds. It casts right on the mark. It's 374 grains checked and PC'd. The bore ride diameter had enough room to not interfear with the rifling. Here are some picks if anyone's interested.
