    Surplus Lead ?

    I scored some surplus lead wire thats realy soft this is used to make the lead core of copper jacketed 308
    on the spool it says
    280 lead wire
    4.5%sr
    any one know what the sr wood mean
    i cast some 400 gr 45-70 & its so soft the top punch on lube sizer leaves a ring

    Are you sure it's not "sb"? That would be antimony. If it's "sn", that's tin.

    it clearly not sb might be a sloppy sn as it is that soft. im casting it in round balls for C&B revolver & it loads great allso trying it in hollow base 400 gr 45-70

    so anyone know what the 4.5% sr or sb means

    Sb is the chemical symbol for antimony. They are just making a fancy
    "B" in my reading of it.

    Hard for me to imagine home swaging lead with 4.5% antimony. Maybe it was intended for use in automated power swaging.
