    444 Marlin, Second variant.

I bought this rifle for my pop some 30 years ago. last week he gave it back. Too much for him these days. Hits 78 tomorrow and just survived a 5 way bypass. (He is doing GREAT!)

    Anyhow,
I haven't loaded for it in almost that long and never really loaded cast in it. I pretty sure its a Micro Groove.

Whats some good boolets and powders you like.

My loading label says, I loaded him a 100pcs on Oct 5, 1988, 265 Hornady SP and used H322 powder... I got 67 returned to me.

    Re7, H322 and 4198 are good powders.
bullets from 280 to 300 grains will get 'er done.

I use H322 and the 265gr Hornady Flatnose, Federal 215M, R-P case. Notes show 1.5"verticalx2.5" horizontal at 200 yards with old Burris 6-24 scope(not my hunting scope). I would use the 265 Hornady or any good 265-300 cast for hunting most critters. With a Leadheads cast 265 I got 1.5" groups at 100 yards, 49 gr h322, Federal 215M, R-P case velocity 2282 fps, SD 14. I would want a tougher bullet than the Hornady for bull elk or moose. Shot 1 6x6 bull, bullet did not hold together very well for a mostly broadside just behind the shoulder shot. I was very pleased AND SURPRISED by the accuracy, though I do own many other accurate Marlin and Savage leverguns. My 444 is a 'transition' model, pistol grip, no safety, 22" barrel, barrel band around magazine tube the early straight grip 24" barrels with the 'unusual' stock. Very fun rifle, all those 44 bullets to play with, easy to load straight case.
