Standard primer is all you need with flake powders. Some ball powders need a magnum primer if you want to play with H110/WW296, use them. Nice looking revolver.

I loaded 3 grains of titegeoup and standard primers. I only shot 100 as I just picked up my ne single six myself. They worked out fairly well.

    Awesome gun !

Back in my 32 H&R mag phase I used standard primers with everything except H110. I learned a lot about H110 when loading magnum cartridges (32, 357, 44) and the old warnings about not downloading H110 aren't just rumors. H110 is an excellent powder for magnum loads at the top end but it gets erratic when you reduce the charge weights too far. I had access to a chronograph back then and remember getting some bizarre spreads with H110 when I didn't heed those warnings.
H110 is the only powder I use when loading full power magnum cartridges and it works beautifully but I respect it.

I had very good results with a solid wadcutter in the 32 H&R mag. IIRC it was around 100 grains and I loaded that with ww231, Bullseye, Unique and WAP (discontinued under the Winchester brand).

Don't overlook the 32 S&W Long, that cartridge can be a LOT of fun in that Ruger !

That's a fine gun you have , Good Luck and enjoy it.

I could never shoot a "cowboy" gun without my wrist hurting. Did not matter if the gun had recoil or not, just not a normal motion for me. That is a beautiful gun, love the deep blue and high polish. I would love to find a S&W 16 for my "big" 32 Mag.

Coincidentally I shot my Ruger .32 Magnum 6 1/2" barrel today. Using Hornaday 85 gr XTP bullets and 6.5 grains of AA #7 at 25 yards, weaver stance, slow fire, standard 25 yard timed and rapid fire, of five rounds fired, four went into the X ring, one into the 10 ring.

    Barnabus,

Use magnum primers only when loading with very slow pistol powders such as WW296/H110. Everything else gets standard primers.

You may want to try WW231/HP38 or Bullseye with the RCBS 98 grain SWC bullet. I have several loads with those powders using both .32 S&W Long and .32 H&R Magnum brass that average just over one inch for five, five shot groups at 25 yards from a Ransom Rest. I have not tested Unique, so cannot comment. I used starting data from the Lyman 49th Edition for the 85 grain cast bullet and worked up from there, sometimes exceeding the book maximum with the .32 S&W Long case but found no signs of excessive pressure in the Ruger SP101 being tested.

I have a newer model single six bisley in .32hrm. I have worked up many good loads for it. The most accurate one is with a 98gn full wadcutter over 2.7gns of bullseye. It is very easy shooting, like a reloadable .22lr. I also shoot a 100gn swc over 4.0gns of unique. This is another accurate mild load. I have a noe 314-316 mold that drops a great bullet at around 119gns. I load these over 4.0gns of unique also for an accurate load with a little more stopping power. For full power loads I use the noe bullet over 10.0-10.5gns of h110 with a magnum primer. These are all good, safe, accurate loads for the single six. I wouldn’t shoot the h110 loads in a lesser gun, but feel very confident shooting them from the ruger. The noe bullet shoots great slow or fast. I also use it in .327 fed mag.
Due to the price of primers, warning shots will no longer be given!

I also like 10.5/H110 under a 100 to 115 grain LSWC, but have not found a magnum primer necessary in that wee case. Standard Winchester small pistols have functioned well.

I have never tried a regular primer with h110. I just automatically reach for mag primers when using h110. That is good to know.

I always use standard primers ,I see no need to use mags. primers.from 327mag down to 32 S&W and 32ACP I use the same primers.

Primers are set for the powder rather than the cartridge name. Traditionally standard primers are all you need for stick and flake powders. Magnum primers hotter flame [brisance] helps to ignite ball powders.
