    is this normal

My buddy was in the need of cash so he sold me his Taurus 44 mag it has a 6.5 inch barrel. I dropped a bullet down the barrel from muzzle end and it fell in about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch before it stopped does not seem right. I would have the thought it should have been tight to the very end of the muzzle.

That's certainly not normal for any of the firearms I own.

Taurus adverts mention a “gas expansion chamber” on their ported-barrel Tracker.

If the distance the bullet falls into the barrel is unrifled, this may be the expansion chamber.

The Taurus pistols with ported barrels have a unrifled chamber for the ported portion of the barrel. it actually seems to make the porting work that much better. So it is normal for a bullet to slide down that far in these guns. I think they call it a "false muzzle system" as other gun brands may be doing the same thing too.

You don't say if the barrel is ported, if it is it is back bored. That's a good thing, makes them easier to handle but it boosts muzzle blast. I have Taurus revolvers in 41 Magnum and 44 Magnum; they work well.

After reading the replies so far, my question would be, "So how does it shoot for ya?".
