Using MP 359-125 in 357 Mag

Wondering if anyone is using the Mihec 359-125 bullet in 357 loads. I’m considering using my 359-125 cast bullets in my 357 Carbine for light cowboy action loads. This style has been working well in my 9’s sized at .358”. After I got the 357, I had ordered some coated bullets from SNS Casting, and they are sized at .358” as well. So got me to thinking if the 359-125 bullets I cast can be used in both. With the longer barrel on carbine, I’m pretty sure I’m going to venture into the realm of powder coating, but wasn’t sure if it would be wise without the presence of a crimp ring.

I use the same bullet in .38spl, and I just seat a little deeper, and then a slight roll crimp. I experimented until I got a visible roll with no bullet damage.
Due to the price of primers, warning shots will no longer be given!

Watching, because I have been wondering the same thing myself.

I have the slightly longer nosed version (359-130 I believe) and it shoots faily accurate out of a 357 Miroku made Winchester 92, but it does not feed well with 357 brass as it hangs up due to excessive OAL. Not sure exactly how much longer mine is than the 359-125 that you have. 38 special brass runs fine. I PC and crimp just enough to remove the flare.

5.0gr of Unique,10 shots @ 40 yd benched with a LER scope. I only tried that one load with this boolit, no workup. Not my best performer but it's good enough for a plinker esp. if you have an 8 cavity mold. They had to be single loaded for this group as I was using 357 brass.
For reference the target dot is a 2" circle.

Use it all the time w/ HP-38/W231. I shoot more of that bullet/powder combo than anything else out of the 357s. Which includes a Marlin 1894C. It’s an economical round that shoots accurately.

Thanks for the responses. My castings come out around 135gr as solids, and when seated at 1.600” to fit my 1873 it the mouth of the case is at the top with the driving band. Luckily it appears that Hodgdon has load data for Cowboy Action using the 135gr RNFP. I am slightly hesitant trying them with traditional lube in my 20” barrel. Might just be time for me to start powder coating.

    *Sorry for the tarnished brass*

There’s nothing wrong w/ traditional lube. It’s used in rifles at over 2500 fps. So there’s going to be no issue in a 357. I don’t powdercoat and have no intention to start.

That mold is a 135 grain solid. It’s 125 grains in hollow point form. You can go well above cowboy level loads if you wanted to. There’s no issues at the upper end.

The MP 359-125 in HP form, Ben's Liquid Lube, 5.0 gr. of Universal, in 357 brass is my current preferred plinking load.

I've been loading them in 357 and 38 special for a while now. It's a very versatile design.
