    22lr bhn?

Yesterday while collecting range scrap I collected a fair amount of 22lr bullets and was wondering what the aprox BHN of them might be?
I was thinking if there as soft as I think they are I may be better using those to make fishing sinkers instead of adding it to to the mix and ending up with a softer lead to cast bullets with.
    So what would you do?
Keep it with the rest of the range scrap or separate it out?

6 - 8 BHN, IIRC. some may be harder, but they are usually pretty soft.

I leave .22 lr bullets in my range scrap and add lino type to reach my target bullet weight and hardness.

When I worked in the industry .22 LR standard velocity and .38 wadcutter were 1-1/2% antimonial lead whereas .22 LR high velocity, .38 Special +P and 9mm, .40 and .45 ACP cores were 3% antimonial lead. 12-ga. 00 buckshot today is usually 6% antimony.

Typical analysis of mixed backstop lead from military and law enforcement indoor range scrap was about 3% antimony, less than 0.5% tin, less than 0.15% arsenic with Bismuth, zinc and copper generally near the lower detection limit by XRF, about 0.06%.

A 50-50 mix of backstop lead and scrap linotype makes good 9mm, .45 and .40 cal. bullets, 13-15 BHN

A 1:10 linotype-backstop scrap makes good soft revolver bullets about 10 BHN.
