Winchester 92

Born on date 1910 started life as a 25-20 but at some point was bored to 32-20. Collector value is kind of gone so I started a clean up. Stock was in pretty bad shape I worked on it some but with some chunks out of it and a hole drilled through it I was lucky and came up with another and maybe one day replace chunks gone from the original. Saved the forend and butt stock is a lucrative trade from a barn somewhere in texas. Came out pretty nice and probably going to do a few more coats of linseed oil or possibly some other. My question to you guy is should I leave it like she is or go for the rest. Been watching on slow blueing and could go that way. Or might look nice looking like my muzzleloader build and brown it. Wish I would have shown pics as doing it but forgot. Have a Remington mod 8 to do next so will pic that one. Do have a shot of wood before.

I'm kind of leaning that way. I have other irons in the fire right now like learning paper patching for 45/70. Maybe i should just finish Winchester but better shoot it this weekend. I haven't gotten around to that yet.

I think it looks very nice! I see you have a mag tube hanger on it, there's maybe the possibility to loose the carbine barrel band and use a nose cap and tennon to hold it. If you so prefer, I like that style. But maybe there's no dovetail cut for the tennon. It will make a fine piece no matter what!

HUH! how come I didnt spot that ?? ----carbine back end / rifle barrel - its got the front hanger dovetail I bet the forend cap dovetail is there under the wood (dont forget that front hanger dovetail is a round dovetail - ya twist it round to remove it DONT drive it out sideways - I have one that Bubba punched out like ya would a sight dovetail and they never go back right after that)

Just an FYI on the magazine hanger front end - It was standard on 1892 SRC's in 32-20 and 25-20. The front end barrel band was standard on only the 44-40 and 38-40 SRC's. So what you have on yours is correct for the carbine you have

Really! All the carbines I seen had the barrel band - maybe they were all -40's ? ---downunder was predominately short barrel rifles - specially in the smaller calibres - I have an original 32 full magazine rifle and it is a rarity here -

Take a look at the Madis book on Winchesters - or the Merz Antique Firearms website - Or Gun Broker. Were only talking 92's. However the 1873 SRC's in 32-20 also had the magazine hanger instead of front end barrel bands - While the 38-40 and 44-40 had the front end barrel band.
