    22 WMR brass

Is it necessary to expand 22 Mag brass up to 6mm and then draw down to 224 size for jackets? If so, why? I tried drawing 22 Mag brass down to 224 jacket size and although it took two steps the process seemed to work fine. Advise...

I don't swage as yet but from all I have read I would think you only need size down a couple thou under finished diameter, I may be wrong but that's how I would do it. Regards Stephen

I do the same. I derim, annealing then Draw down to .220" for .224 jackets. Trim to length as required. No issues.

I derim in a die sized for a .242 jacket and when I need long 224 jackets i draw to .222 and trim. The 22lr derim die i have is too tight to derim 22wmr.

GONRA made a set of CH Swag-O-Matic dies to dehead .22 LR or .22 WRM cases in one pass.
HOWEVER cannot swear MY deheads are satisfactory for YOUR demanding bullet jacket application!

Use "STP Oil Treatment" (auto parts shops) or "Tri-Flow Clear Synthetic Grease" (bike shops) for a Swage Lube.
(These goops are also great for the most difficult cartridge case resizing jobs, manufacturing primer cups, etc......)
