    Loverin Mold

    Hey Folks,
Just found/bought my 270Win unicorn mold, a Lyman 280468L, the heavy version. Should be here Friday. My question has to do with Loverin style molds which this one is. How many grooves do you lube? Doesn't have to be this particular caliber, just info on this style of mold. Thank you in advance!

I shoot a bunch in 30/30 and 30-06. I use WLL 2700+ and fill all of the grooves, even the exposed grooves. They work great!

...............I normally lube to about the case neck mouth so long as the unlubed/sized portion will chamber W/O pushing the boolit back into the case. If so I'll size in a Lee die and then lube to the casemouth.

One vote for the every groove, one vote for just inside the neck, one vote for PC. As of right now I do not PC, only conventional lube with a Star.

I'll be the odd man out. I tumble lube the one loverin style boolit mold that I use. It the NOE 314407, and I use it in my Mosin Nagant. One light application of LLA before sizing, another after sizing. Works great.

For gallery loads , just one groove of Alox . Faster loads , I use up to four grooves of LBT Blue .

I lube all the grooves 258463 for my 256 Winchester t/c. Loverin designs tend to be accurate.
    Good luck with yours, Tim

You would have to shoot them starting with one groove filled with lube and work your way up to finding the best accuracy. You CAN have too much lube on a boolit.

I had the same question when I started with the 30 cal. mold that I was given from my friend.
After much testing, we determined that the method that Buckshot recommends is right on. Buckshot said with much better eloquence than I.

Ill start by lubing the length that is in the case. I use a bore riding boolit right now so it'll be interesting to see what will fit in the throat.

    I paper patch mine.
But also use a soft lube in all grooves when not.
But then again I only use a single shot rifle.

I find I only lube what I need too. Accuracy goes down with overlubing, Col. Harrison found this true with wadcutters and settled on only one groove being lubed. I find it dependent a lot on your lube. With Felix you may only need 2-3 grooves lubed, with another alox based you might need 4. With a micro wax lube you may get by with one. Start with 3 and see what adjusting does. You don't want a lube star appearing too early, say 15 rounds nor do you want one not there at 100.
