End of the line for my PB powder supply

It’s like knowing that you are never going to see an old friend again. I opened my last small container (14 oz) today. IMR stopped packing/ production a few years back. In all, probably used 15#+ over the years.

It’s become a favorite of mine for 9mm, but I have successful recipes for 38sp, 45acp and 12G.

Win231 and bullseye will fill the cases now.

PB is a specific powder, apparently now out of production. I have never used it, but I will cry when the last of my SR-4759 is gone.

Never give up hope, I got an unopened 8 lb can of SR-4759 in a garage sale recently for $10.

I can feel your pain. PB is my go to powder for 9mm. My can is getting low also.

I'm jealous, very good stuff. I know that 5744 is all the rage now for cast bullet loads in rifles and is supposed to have replaced SR4759 as the go-to, but I'm not so sure. 5744 is good stuff, no doubt, just not sure it's as good as the old stand by.

I still have 7 or 8 lbs of PB I have only used it for 45 Colt and 12ga.

Funny, I didn’t recall that it was the same weight for the 38sp 158swc as the Lee 120 TC (122gr) @1.100 and HG#275 (132 gr)@ 1.090. 3.9grains PB is where I landed. Please verify load data for your use.

The 45acp was 4.3-4.4 grains PB for Lee 230 TC @ 1.200. Again, please verify load data for your use.

You may have to go back a bit to get load information. Hodgdon still has some on their consolidated website. Please verify load data for your safety.

I agree one of my favorites for a couple calibers...Over the last few years I have found new powders I like but still hord the last two cams of it for my 32/20 loads.

I ran out of 7625 3 years ago and finally had to switch to something else. It was an almost perfect powder for an old shotgun that I want to keep the pressures low in. I looked for it for two years before I found it had been discontinued.

The Hodgdon data site has PB data listed for the majority of boolit weights 38 special, 45acp, 45 colt, and 9mm. I didn't look to see if thee were any more cartridges with data for PB.

You might find this list from the source manufacturer of use. ADI makes powders sold under other brand labels.

I have found their equivalents to be as they state and this is a list of powders that they make as AP50N and wholesale to the other brands. PB is therefore going to be almost the same as the other powders. In the heading they state +/- 5% equivalent. Hopefully this will help people find a suitable and still available replacement.

They also provide load data using their product designation and on a few occasions I have then used that load data with the US brand equivalent with good success. Not for cast lead but does provide a starting point. Typically at around 60% of max for jacketed of same or slightly greater weight makes a good starting load for cast. Enough without being too much.
