Ballistic tip 6mm from 17HMR brass!

Spent the day working on one of my personal projects that has been on the back burner for at least a couple years now. I have had these ballistic tips for a long time just never had the time to perfect and machine the tooling necessary to make them work.

Well after all day and more then a few attempts I got them dang near perfect.

    Check it out!

100 grain 6mm bullet with 6s ogive, ballistic tip and 9 degree boat tail made from 17HMR brass that was first cut off at the shoulder.

The speckled look to the brass jacket is what happens when you anneal them too long and they become a bit too soft but still works and will absolutely explode!

Now that I have the tooling and techniques figured out my next step is to incorporate them into the 22 cal bullet from 22lr brass where I think this tips will really shine!

    Good shooting and swage on!

interesting, the second object in the first picture can you explain how that is made? is it an upside down case with the base turned into a dome?

The upside down case is the 17HMR case after it's neck and shoulder was cut off then it was derimed to turn it into a 6mm jacket.

    Thanks guys...

They look beautiful. Job well done, does a lead tip punch make the final seat in the point forming die?
What does it add to the weight of the bullet?

Glad the tips are working well for you. I know they are small and are a bit tricky to handle with our fat fingers

I did give some thought into the ogive and size of the tip to work with a pretty wide range of calibers. Basically anything below .308 cal. Someday I hope to get the chance to improve on the design.
