Question Possible 8x56mmR Sealed Ammo Can?

I bought a Steyr M95 carbine today and it came with a sealed ammo can. The seller could not say for certain if it is 8x56r, only that it came with the gun when he bought it several years ago. There are absolutely no markings on the ammo can. So my questions are:

Does anyone have any experience and can possibly identify or at least hint at what this might be?

And would it be better to open the ammo can or leave it sealed?

I recently bought an M95 8x56, and at a different store I bought ten or so boxes of the 1938 Nazi ammo (not in a sealed can). The salesman told me that there's probably some duds - maybe many duds- among the boxes. I'd open the sealed can to see what's inside. If it is the correct ammo, it should be in clips that you'll need if you reload for the rifle (even if the ammo is bad).
I bought a spare extractor, just to have:

I have shot a lot of the 1938 nazi ammo and have yet to have a dud. I would open the can and see what you've got.

Yeah, I am not too concerned about the quality of the ammo, since I will most likely just pull the projectiles and hand load them. I as well have had bad experiences with old ammo...you never know how the ammo was taken care of (or not taken care of).

Tjnitehawk sez: "I will most likely just pull the projectiles and hand load them."
GONRA sez - really great idea - pretty sure they're an ODD DIAMETER that may be expensive to purchase.

    I'd open the can!
