Marlin 36 A dl

I have found a M36 in decent shape, except 4 holes for some kinda side mount,on the Barrel! Look like #8 or even 10 possibly. The price seems a bit much considering the extra holes, but I am not really up on them. Any thoughts, would 550$ be reasonable or not??

$550 without the holes maybe. The holes make it "shooter grade" IMO. $300 or so if it's otherwise in good shape.

With holes in the barrel, I would be thinking more like $250.00.

Well thats kinda what I was thinking. I can plug them and rust blue the barrel, but then it wouldn't match the frame so it becomes a complete restore.. Just asking for opinions, I am more accumulator than collector, so project guns that are functionally sound are ok by me. Just thinking this was priced for the collector,and not of collector quality. At 300$ I would pe posting a picture of us together already

After surfing around a bit, either it is an A rebarelled with an A- dL barrel or an uncheckered A-DL. Should have checked the serial. One on GB at 475 with no takers, scope sittin on top. Dang it, it really wants to follow me home, and he has too much in it to come down enough.

While an accumulator might be interested, with the barrel holes, a true collector wouldn't touch it with a 10' pole.

Its still a shooter and has some worth. Holes and whatever else.
Collectors would pass up. Perfectionist would try to antagonize its seller into accepting a ridiculously low offering. But a wise 'ol horse trader & woodsy smart Sportsman/ shooter. ~~"Whom usually have a fair price in mind." _During negotiations the seller may get close or better yet agree too his prospective buyers offer. Especially when hearing/seeing a bit of {positive} enthusiasm.

place I worked years ago would price a gun in the rack,then let it rest for maybe 4 months......if it hadnt sold, they would increase the price by 10%..........usually got a bite from a " waiter".......then the owner would reel him in............and close the deal by giving a 10% discount for cash.

I know the shop owner, we both know he has too much in this one. It will “ferment” for a few months hoping someone comes in that will pay what he wants. Hopefully it makes it thru the fermentation cycle, and we can make an agreeable deal. Otherwise, well, I really wasn’t looking for another rifle anyway. Thanks for everyone’s thoughts on the topic, nice to have others perspective.

I've alwalys had a soft spot for those 36's, just don't care for them to altered to much. Anymore if a gun don't jump out at me, I'll keep walking, cause I've got enough shooters, with no time to shoot'em!

That's how I talk myself out of a new one is to shoot the ones I have. Sometimes it works.
