    X-lox vs 45-45-10

I just placed an order with White Label Lube and ordered two 16 ounce bottles of X-lox and 45-45-10. I understand X-lox is very similar to LLA which I have used a lot. How do the two lubes compare and is one better than the other for higher velocity loads? Thanks in advance for your help.

    I don't understand the question you're asking. Do you want a comparison of X-lox to 45-45-10 ?

X-lox would be an ingredient of 45-45-10, as would LLA.

Or do you want a comparison of LLA to X-lox ? They are very similar. I use them interchangably.

It depends on how you are defining high velocity loads?
But, I wouldn't use either of those for my high velocity loads

You can use X-lox to make 45-45-10.
Old enough to know better, young enough to do it anyway!

Xlox, like Lee Alox never really dries while 45/45/10 dries into a "semi-firm wax" which tends to prevent powder from sticking to it in case you use a kinetic puller to pull the bullet and it winds up sitting in powder. Both will build up gunk on the seating stem of your die if applied to thickly. Both will create a lot more smoke than jacketed, plated or PC'ed bullets but not much more than traditional lubes. Both work fine at handgun velocities but may run out in a rifle and cause leading. Both will cause leading in a rough unpolished barrel (so will a traditionally lubed bare bullet)

The main advantage to 45-45-10 is in the handling characteristics IMO. It dries faster and harder so the film isn't as likely to get scraped off in handling or in the seating die. I think it's a little less smoky when fired, but you're always going to get some smoke from any bullet lube.

    Hello
Xlox is the same product as Lee's Liquid Alox. We buy it in 55 gallon drums, adjust it to match LLA consistency and package in 16 and 32oz bottles. Like the guys said, a heavy coat of Xlox will stay soft for a long time.

45-45-10 when applied with a light coat is usually dry to the touch in about 4 hours and should be ready to load by the next day.
I have pushed 45-45-10 to around 1500fps with the Ranch Dog 165 plain base in a 30-06 and had zero leading after 100 rounds.
This was the last 5 round target shot at 75 yards.
