    Anyone shooting a Dreyse ?

I recently acquired a Dreyse model 1860 rifle and am wondering if anyone here is shooting one. If so what powder charge, bullet style, diameter, weight are you shooting and what are you using for a sabot. I'm thinking of making the sabot from rolled paper and using a round ball. There is a youtube video of a fellow making ammunition and shooting one but unfortunately the details are left out or maybe it's because I don't understand him as he isn't speaking English and English is the only foreign language I studied in school.

I am shooting the Chassepot and some day wouldn't mind trying the Dreyse as well. Good luck to you, should be a fun project.

This video is in english, but Chassepot specific. However I'd imagine there's a lot of carry over in the process and "cartridge" assembly between the two. Needle fire is needle fire.

Thanks guys, I understand the general process of making the cartridge what I need are some specifics regarding bullet and sabot. A quick measurement groove to groove at the muzzle is .651 as I understand the original bullet was 13.4 MM or about .527 diameter so a sabot is required. Hope to shoot it this spring if all goes well.

TheG.A.R. West brothers from Gemany are the experts, and I believe they have a number of Utbe videos.............they have also written books about shooting needle guns and chassepots...........but I suspect a bit beyond my price range.

Old west bullet molds has a mold for the original egg-shaped bullet. As for sabots, don't know.
