    IMR 4064 for 7mm-08 ?

I have long been wedded to IMR 4895 for the 308 Win. and have had good results with that same powder in other 308 class cartridges. I'm tempted to try IMR 4064 in the 7mm-08.

Has anyone had experiences, good or bad, with 7mm-08, 140 grain bullets and IMR 4064 ?

The last time I was using 4064, I was loading it in 7mm Mauser (7 x 57) and I just ended up going back to 4895.

I use it with 162 a-max and it may not be the fastest but it sure shoots tiny groups.
    In the .1's@100 and mid .2's @200
Stock savage action with a 24" Mcgowen and 6x scope.
I think it was 39.0grs by memory but you'd have to do your own work ups.
This rifle will do these groups on demand - I've had it in the rack for a while
do to other projects but still take it to sight in days and watch the old guys
helping at the club start to help a guy out and when they see the third go through
the same hole I get called all kinds of names.
This Mcgowen for what ever reason is a real hummer - as good as my Kreigers
on my dog rifles and they are fantastic.

AA3100 should not be overlooked. It is a slow burning powder in medium size cartridges but, still gives decent velocities with fairly low pressure.
When Accurate Arms introduced 3100 back in the 70's I bought 6, 8lb. jugs that were on sale for $29.95 each. It works quite well in my 7x57 and 260 with heavy bullets.

7mm-08 is one of my favorite rifle calibers. IMR 4064 is an excellent powder choice in the 39-40 gr range for the 140-150gr bullets. I load for accuracy not speed. My most used load is 38.0gr of Reloader 15 and a 150gr Sierra MatchKing. Not blazing fast but shoots excellent out of a Krieger and an Obermeyer tube.

Ain't no fish story anyone is welcome any time.
Only three shot groups though then the heat builds.
Nosler brass BR2 primers 4064 early 90's lot
wilson dies and it was in a tupperware unbedded stock.
Deer rig so only work 3 shot groups 5 is a waste.
Sav BVSS action accu glued in single shot follower no ejector.
I'd have to find notes but I think it was .005 jam??
And yes I know how to measure groups.
I do realize how a guy would be skeptical - there lies the fun with this one.
I'll dig up some pics if I can find them in the mess I have.

My Sierra Manual shows loads closer to the 43-44 grain range with IMR 4064 and 140 grain bullets.

Does the accuracy improve with the lower speed/powder charge in this cartridge ?

4064 was a favorite of mine in the .220 Swift and 8x57mm. Max loads grouped the best for me.

40.5 grs of IMR 4064 under a 140gr Sierra Pro Hunter shoots sub MOA out of my Savage Striker Pistol . Ive killed 1 buck with it straight on and dropped him in his tracks .
