Win 231 with that boolit or Universal Clays have worked well for me. The latter shoots much cleaner. GF

Red Dot, 5.5 grains, 200 grain boolit equals much good.

6 grains of Bullseye or TiteGroup also shoot well. Both are also safe in the 1873 Winchester as long as you exercise care to avoid inadvertent double-charges. I charge cases a block of 50 at a time and check with a penlight. If unable to so this, the Red Dot suggestion above is best IF you have a powder measure able to meter its larger particle size uniformly and accurately.

5.2 gr of clay dot with a 200 gr works in my original .44-40 1873 musket. Don’t have a .44-40 revolver so I can’t help you there. Start low and work up until the load, the way you sight, shoot and hold your revolver put the poa and the poi at the same spot. Have fun.

Smokewagon needs smoke not smokeless. However, if you insist, I would recommend Unique for that cartridge.

Vectan A1 has about the same burn rate as unique but much cleaner burning could try that if you can get it

I have never tried any of the Vectan powder but I might give it a try. And yes, Unique does burn dirty. Very useful but dirty. james

I got a can 1.1lb of the faster vectan AS a while back it burn rate is in the infield ballpark range of tight group but much cleaner as the cases are brass collared and almost look like they were wire brushed after fireing in my 9mm just started using A1 for some 158gr swc in the 9mm very clean to also use a light loading around 5gr of AS in 44mag with 128gr 440 round ball sized 430 for a nice slow 750fps light plinker but clean
