    Need a powder recomendation

I got an offer to make someone 223 loads for pay. i have a bit of imr 4895 which is the only powder i have listed for 223, so im probably gonna have to buy powder for it. So my question is what powder would be good for both 223 j word loads and also be good for mid range 30 cal cast loads cause i don't what the leftovers to just sit on my bench forever as i never load small rifle. i know 4895 can do both but is there something better for this situation or just buy more 4895.

CFE 223 will work for both. Loads on Hodgdon site for 308 from 125-210 gr.

WC846 (BLC-2) works fine, and it is cheaper than 4895.

I love Ramshot TAC in 223. There are plenty of data for 308 but I don't load this cartridge yet.

wc846 is the way to go. wc844 will also work. but i like 846 better because it works well in 7-08, 308, 30-06 and 30-30.

^^This^^. Reloading for sale legally requires a Type 06 FFL, plus whatever state license(s) might be required. I would also recommend several million dollars in product liability insurance.

No offense, but just because it's a family member doesn't make one any less liable. I would load them some for free maybe ONLY after I thoroughly tested the ammo out!

Suggestion: Have your "family member" help you reload and trade, or "barter" for items of interest he may have for your "knowledge" and reloads, not cash. Family relations can go "south" in a heart beat if any of your reloads cause problems with "his" firearms or are shared by his friends. By teaching him to reload you can pass on a valuable skill, while avoiding legal problems by anyone he or she knows and might share his newly loaded rounds by his "family manufacturer". I might sound a bit paranoid, but once you "charge" money, the "chain of possession" for your product is no longer in your hands and family relationships will only sound good among your family members who understands and likes guns. (Consider who you would trust to load for you if the roles were reversed???) Otherwise, good luck and God Bless. BTW, I've found IMR4895 works real well in my .223's.

I went through about 15 lbs of IMR4895 in my AR before I came across some cheap WC 844. It does the job.

Outside the "don't load for anybody else" discussion (which I agree with BTW), for a .223 powder recommendation, I suggest Shooters World 'Match Rifle' (Lovex D0 73-06). It's a Czech made import (Powder Valley and others carry it) and I recently picked up a pound at a local gunshow. For my Colt SP1 preferred fodder (55gr FMJ), it performed the same as my preferred US powder. IMO, good stuff at a good price.

Wouldn't do it. Teach them, its cheap enough to get started. I wouldn't risk it.

THIS- and I would have to test the ammo in THEIR gun, with them present.

^^^^^^^ what they said. Teach them to do it themselves, wish them good luck, and let them take the liability with them when they go. Just my opinion. Be safe.

I use 3 powders in my ARs; H-335, WW748, and WC846. The WC846 works just fine with 55 to 60 grainers; heavier j bullets get the 748.
If you want your children to follow in your footsteps, be careful where you walk.
Beware the man that only owns one gun; he probably knows how to use it.
