50 Alaskan as a less expensive 510 Whisper

Hi guys, I just wondered if anyone here was running a 50 Alaskan, with heavy slugs subsonic as a less expensive version of the 510 Whisper?

If so, do you have/need a fast twist. According to stability factors a 1.8" 950 grain bullet should be stable at 800f fps in a 1:15 twist is that so?

Finally if anyone is doing this, what level of accuracy do you get in the 50-200 yard range?

    Thanks

    Can't help you there, but I have run a 850 out of a 50-70 with a 1:15 twist. 1.5" groups @100yds running 1150-1200fps.

Don't see why your idea wouldn't work well

Thats not too bad a group for such a big slug, I was looking at the NOE 513-887 and thinking it should work in a 50 Alaskan as is just a slightly bigger case than the 50-70 there is no reason it should be similar.

    What powder are you using?

Barrel twist rate? I mention this because I have a Marlin 1894 44 mag with a 1 in 38" twist. No 300 grain bullet stability from that one (I tried).

My gun smith has a choice of 1:15 or 1:8, the later seems very fast for a 50 cal!

when I had my 50 ak my fart around load was a 480 lfn with 8 grains of unique. Im sure it was subsonic and it absolutely flattened pigs. Never did see any use for bullets heavier then 500 grain in the 50s. Ive had 450s at 1100 out of my Linebaughs shoot end to end through 1000 lb buffalo.
