2200 powder

Have a almost full 8 pound jug of this 2200 powder. From what I can find was used for the 7.62x39 cartridge. Since I recently bought a Ruger Compact rifle with the 16 or so inch barrel I was wondering if anyone had used this powder in this cartridge. Finally found some large enough cast bullets to slug the barrel. Thanks,Frank

I use it a lot in 300/221 (300BO) Encore. I get good accurracy.

Google 2200 data powder. A PDF from accurrate powder comes up. There is data for 7.62x39

I have used in my grendel but it is THE powder in my 25/45. Its like magic dust in that caliber.

I shoot a 110FTX bullet from my 20” Bbl at 2700 fps and 1/3 MOA. To date only one deer has fallen to this combo. It was a close hi shoulder and was immediate incapisatation. DRT
I have only been buying by the pound, but I am on my third pound, I wont allow it to run out!

AA-2200 is one of those that I've come to depend upon! Really great stuff for .223/5.56 with bullet weights from 40g (V-Max's and Blitz-King's) up to 62g SC-FMJ's in both the CZ turn bolt as well as the AR's! Ditto for my old 222 R-P chambered Savage.
Additionally, it's my goto powder for 45-70 Gubbermint with 300g to 405g pills in the H&R Buffalo rifle. Superior velocities and accuracy to anything else I've tried!
It even produced some nice groups for the 16" barreled 300 Blackout with a 180g Berry's boolet. Although, the burn rate is a bit slow in that cartridge and so did leave behind a bit of un-burnt powder residue.
I've done a very few work-up's in 308 Winchester for a R-P 700 and 110g V-Max that are showing some promise, but am still working on that one.

what loads are you using for the 300 and 400 grain bullets? A while ago,I contacted Accurate about their 45-70 load data, and they changed the powder weight on their website to a lower amount. It differs considerably from the pamphlet that came with the powder, and their original data on the website.

2200 was originaly introduced years ago as a surplus powder. The 2200 available today is newly manufactured. Maybe the two have slightly different burn rates? Maybe the corporate lawyers bumped down the load data?

In 1997 I worked up some 300 grain jacketed 45-70 loads that approached 2400 fps with AA2200 without signs of excessive pressure. Case was full and I do not care to compress ball powders. I was running 2015 at over 2200 fps so did not chase more velocity with a new ball powder. I hunt in widely varying temperatures, -25 to 65+ during elk seasons, so I did/do not trust ball powders for that hunting. It was very low cost in 1997. I have a bunch on hand, kept as part of 'another powder shortage stash'. It appears to work well in .223, 30-30, 444, 358 Win and 45-70 for full-power loading. It should work well in the 35 Rem and 32 Special also. Testing a load for both warm weather and cold weather performance is time consuming.

Have been using AA2200 for about 5-6 years. In fact it all I use for hunting deer with .233. Worked up past 25 gr. And started spreading group out, was at 3250 fps with 24 gr. This is old data powder tho 30-40 years IIRC. Tried with 300BO but didn’t stick with it to test, still have a bunch loaded to ladder test.

30 Herrett 130 gr. coated with book load give book velocities.

Sorry it took me so long to rediscover and respond to your question.
All brass used below is StarLine. All loads were developed for the long barreled H&R Buffalo gun.

Hornady 300g HP (#4500), CCI-200, AA-2200 @ 54.0g, COAL= 2.545" gave me 2250fps @ 50*F (THIS IS A MAXIMUM TESTED CHARGE WEIGHT LOAD! And was the most accurate.)
Berry's 350g FPRN-TMJ, CCI-200, AA-2200 @ 48.5g, COAL= 2.445" pushed the pill at 2150fps at 50*F.
Hornady 325g FTX, CCI-200, AA-2200 @ 52.0g, COAL= 2.670" sent it at 2215 fps at 45*F. (THIS IS A MAXIMUM TESTED CHARGE WEIGHT LOAD! And was the most accurate.)
Speer 400g SPFN #2479, AA-2200 @ 44.0g, CCI-250 (magnum), COAL= 2.51", was clocked at 1790fps @85*F.

Had no luck with Missouri 300g RNFP-lead bullets and AA-2200. All charge weights tested produced excessive leading and I gave up on that load combination rather quickly.

The data above for the 300g Hornady pill is within published data.
The others are over that recommended by Western/Accurate Arms Powders.
As stated I had no luck with Cast lead. No Coated have yet been harmed by me.

The Hornady 300g hp load you have is exactly what I was using, with the excption of a winchester large primer. A very accurate load in my 1886. It leaves me a bit black and blue shooting off the bench with the crescent butt.
The Remington 300g bullet shoots with the same accuracy as well. Both under an inch at 100yds.
This powder is what got me into casting. I have so much of it and it works so well in the 45-70, I decided to try the RCBS 300g GC bullet. They came out at a finished 325g with checks fitted and ben's red lube added. Over a full load of AA2200 they shot as well as the 300g jacketed bullets, with no leading. I actually sold off all my Hornady bullets as I was so impressed with the cast bullets. I tried alloy mixes, even pure lino, but found WDWW more than adequate. Accuracy was still good down to 48g of powder.
