I would guess it was to act as a lubricant. I don’t see where it is needed. It would be interesting, however, to see a comparison with a chrono, to see if it changes the boolit speed at all.
In all the MANY experiments I have done over the MANY past years, I have found graphite only kills the static in the plastic bowl. Prevents the various powders for sticking at all! Does not work for me at all.
Mabe if you are using ESPC? I never tried it, as there is absolutely ZERO need for any additional lube with PC. Waste of time and $$ as far as I am concerned.

Ditto what Bangerjim said. PC is already giving approximately a 5% increase in velocity and keeping your barrel cooler due to its lack of friction.
