    Dimples on boolets???

Might be a silly question, but I'm just wondering.
    I used to golf.
A golf ball has dimples so it will fly farther and fly true.
Something to do with disrupting the air flow.
Would dimpling cast boolets do the same????
Has anyone tried it in the past????

Funny you mention this... I was just thinking about this the other day.
I think it would be an interesting experiment just for fun.

The only thing is though, I think the dimples are for the airflow, to lessen drag around the rear of a sphere & would likely only help round ball, but not so much effect on the shape of bullets/boolits.

For example...Don't think there are many dimples in aircraft or missile, etc. that have a point "bullet like" shape.
If there was any good in doing it, I think it would have already been implemented by now.

So, I think it would only have a decent effect upon a sphere, but not elongated shapes.

I am sure more scientific minded folks will come along shortly & add their info.

taufledermous, roughly spelled, did this on youtube with shotguns. but a golfball being slapped at low speed and a supersonic mach cone forming on the nose of a bullet are very different kinds of aerodynamics. im not a rocket scientist but I don't think it really matter whats behind the mach cone when your talking fast things.

I tried it maybe 15 years ago with the SAECO 420 gr. .40 cal. in a .40-65 Browning Hi-Wall. Didn't work at all.

Try the search function. I know I have seen this topic before and it was likely on this forum (but maybe not).

There was a heated discussion about dimpled bullets some years back on several forums and I read an article in one of the gun magazines, might have been Hand Loaders ? not sure anymore.
Dimpled projectile concept goes back to the muzzle loader cannon days, nothing new.
