I wanted some wooden grips to replace the small, rubber factory grips that were original to this year 2001 Tracker 970. Back then, I wanted a 22 plinker, and I bought this revolver brand new for $250 as I did not wish to spend more than $500 for a Smith. I don't recall Ruger even having a rimfire 22 revolver in its portfolio at that time (could be mistaken about that, though).
I also just changed the factory hammer and trigger springs with Wolff reduced tension springs. The cylinder exhibits absolutely zero endshake. The internals were well lubed at the same time. It shoots as accurately as it can be held. This model is no longer in production.
It is no exaggeration to describe the action on this Tracker as being at least as smooth as, if not smoother, than on a Colt Diamondback. I was shooting the Tracker back to back with the Diamondback at the range last week specifically for comparison. The Tracker trigger break is 3 pounds with zero creep. I'm very pleased with this Tracker. It has turned out to be a very unexpected little gem!
These new wooden grips feel and fit perfectly...
