300 BO AR and the Lyman 311359 115gr. GC, what powder to stat with?

I have this mould and have been considering attempting to use it in the AR. I have the NOE 311414 working pretty darn well and would like to venture into the lighter bullet for supersonic plinking. We can't have cans in IL and my kids like to shoot the AR at steel.

Has anyone here tried this combination? If so, what powder did you settle on? I have almost any powder I would want to try and will likely start with 4227 or an H110 variant that is about 10% faster than consumer H110. I could also go to 296 as well.

110 will push them pretty fast and doesn't take to downloading much. Might look for a 110 vmax load for starting.
    Whatever!

Thanks, that was my first thought. 4227 likes pressure to burn clean.

Great to hear, I will cast a few to test this weekend. The 150 NOE works super well, but looking for something a little lighter.

Good luck I hope you get a good loading.

I bought a bunch as I did not want to just buy a mold until I was sure... I haven't been able to make them shoot AT ALL acceptable. 150, 155 and 165 are fine, 180 _ wont shoot in my Black outs. I had 5 of them! Three are ar's and on is a bolt and one more is a SS H&R. ALL have acceptable twists ALL have been tried slo sub right at threshold and supersonic... NONE of the 180+ will shoot better then 2" @ 50 yards.

I have cast 150 SP's running right at 1800fps, grouping a dismal 1.5" at 50 yards. But, that is due in large part to the trigger and a stock that I can't seem to wrestle into a rest well. In 5 shot groups, if you throw out the odd man, I am getting 4 in .60 to .75. Have not shot at 100 yet since the stock sucks and the weather is even worse.

I have had the mould for 20 years, used in 30 Carbine and plinker '06 from time to time.

I expect a cast bullet to group five shots in one inch at 50 yards from my blackout carbine. So far none have - so I'm sticking with jacketed 110s & 150s. I suspect the problem is in the 7-inch twist Barrel.

That could be. Mine is a 1:8 twist 16". I think with a decent stock and trigger I will get to 1 inch at 100 yards. I wanted 1:9, but found a complete rifle, new locally for 250 ftf, could not pass that up.

It's not the 1:7. This is old diamond back carbine barrel, 1:7 150gr PB @ 100. My horiz. control isn't the best.

Getting better but my trigger control needs to improve as well.

Thats the best I have been able to do out if any of mine. (Cast subs) I think it the twist as my 30/30’s shoot SAME cast 1-1.25 @ 100yards! (Light supers) I have never had ANY cast shoot “good” from a 300bo. Im NOT belly aching as a couple
Of mine will shoot 1/2 - 1/3 MOA HONEST ONE RAGGED HOLE with supers 110, 125, 147 & 150g bullets.

Tex, serious about using H110/296 for the 155s. I push the PB 145 & 150 hornadys past 2k fps with the H110. From 1:10 carbine. Work about as well from 1:8 10" pistol that I can't shoot very well.
    Whatever!
