    Question about Revolver Cylinders

Recently I had a new batch of parts come in. Included were a couple boxes of Colt and S&W. My question is how can one identify what model the cylinders fit? I've done a good bit of reading but haven't really seen anything that links particular measurements to a certain model.

If you'll post here with measurements of cylinder length and diameter, some of us can help out. Photos would also be very useful.

I might be all wrong, but don't S&W cylinders rotate in the other direction than a Colt?

If that's true, it might simplify things a bit.
